Sunday 4:00pm (Championship Stomp)

Coldwell Banker River Ridge Realtors and MainSource Bank, Co-sponsors The laughs, purple feet and red faces substantiate the romping, stomping good time of the participants who must forfeit both dignity and shoes. For 36 years, the Grape Stomp has provoked camaraderie and festival hilarity. The 2007 edition of the Midwest Championship Grape Stomp promises equal billing. The elimination rounds will commence Friday evening and run through Sunday afternoon.

For festival-goers who want a first time, toe-squishing experience, a non-competitive Open Stomp will follow each championship round. Children under 13 years of age too can partake of the action in the Kid's Stomp Saturday at 3:30 p.m. Within minutes, both little feet and happy faces boast a purple glow.

Vine enthusiasts also can dress like the most famous grape stomper of all times when they help festival organizers re-enact Lucille Ball's famous Italian movie. To determine the winner in the "I Love Lucy Look-a-Like Contest" and stomp, judges will use costume authenticity and enthusiasm as the basis.

The festival, which highly recommends pre-registration, encourages competitions between organizations, friends and schools. Teams consist of two members, a stomper and a swabbie. The winning teams from each round will be invited back to compete in the final stomp on Sunday. The winner of the 2007 Midwest Championship Grape Stomp will merit a cash prize of $250. The first 30 paid teams will receive an official T-shirt after stomping. And all participants will become members of the Order of the Purple Foot. Applications, waivers, and the required entry fee of $5 must be received by mail by Aug. 15. However, applications in person can be taken to Switzerland County Visitor's Center at 128 W. Main St. until Aug. 23. Teams may also sign up during the festival if space permits.
